Did you know that bishops have resided in Litoměřice since 1655? The bishops had a beautiful residence built that is now the main dominant feature of the panorama of the town.
It was built on the site of a former chapter house building from the 11th century, following the designs of Guilio Broggia from 1683 to 1701; the residence has two floors and it faces the river. There is also the Chapel of St Laurence with paintings by F. Kučera and Ch. Tietze. On the ground floor you will find a large library built towards the end of the 18th century by Bishop Emanuel Arnošt of Valdštejn. There is a throne hall on the first floor, boasting beautiful ceiling paintings. Nowadays, the residence is used by the Bishop of Litoměřice as his seat.
