The village of Dubice, situated in the administrative area of Třebenice, was founded in the 13th century. This is mentioned by Zdeněk "of Dupitz" who enlarged the village, surrounding the church. In 1436 the village of Dubice was rented by the Emperor Sigmund to Jan Kaplíř of Sulevice. In 1579 the village was joined with the estate of Horní Trmice by Jidnřich Kauč of Kauč. The part of the village surrounding the church was called Nová Dubice, later on Dubičky. The village is situated 220 m above the level of the Labe River.
There is one thing that makes Dubice special, and that is the view over the Labe, actually the view over the entire Porta Bohemica. The peaks of České středohoří (Central Bohemian Uplands) and the meandering river create an absolutely unique and beautiful landscape picture. The best views are to be had from St Barbara's Church.
The church was originally a Lutheran church, built in 1579. It was rebuilt in 1643 when the church was given over to the Catholic Church. More renovation work followed in 1820 after a fire broke out in the village. The single nave building with a tower in the western gable faces east.
If you want superb views of Porta Bohemica, this is the place to come. It does not get better anywhere else :-)
