In 1553 on the site of the present day castle, there used to be a stronghold where Václav Hájek of Libočany, the well known Czech chronicler was born. The village boasts not only the castle but also the single nave Church of All Saints, featuring two towers on the western frontage and a richly decorated facade. It is also worthwhile exploring the nearby town of Žatec, that used to be one of the Royal towns first mentioned in 1004. The town offers a whole range of historical sights of architectural value.

The local chateau is used by the Cartography Institute in Prague as a depositary. The chateau has been thoroughly renovated and the original Baroque facades were renovated.
