To the top of the highest mountain of the Krušné Mountains - Klínovec
The flat top of Klínovec Mountain (1244 m) is decorated with a historical hotel with an octagonal stone viewing tower.. It was built in 1884, it is 24 metres high and it is currently under reconstruction. But the main and dominating sight on Klínovec is the 80-metre high telecommunication tower, which is visible from far away. You can take the chair cable lift to the top or you may drive your car to the top, where you will find a hotel and a nearby parking lot. During the summer, Klínovec is a popular destination for bikers and hikers. In winter, the mountain offers a wide range of ski lifts and ski slopes. Cross-country skiers will also find numerous tracks. The first structure on Klínovec was built in 1817 and it was a simple wooden pyramid. The second structure was a gloriette, which served its visitors between 1838 and 1868. The Krušné Mountains Association was founded in 1880, which began considering a construction of a new viewing tower on the top of Klínovec. These efforts led to people erecting a temporary wooden observation tower within a single week. A huge influx of tourists forced the Association to build a small inn at least. The new inn was built in 1883. When the new inn become insufficient, additional buildings were added to this complex until it reached the size we know today. To the core of Mědník Mountain – Měděnec, tunnel/gallery of Maria Hilfe From the top of Klínovec we will go to Měděnec Mountain, 16 km away. This former mining village, located on the very edge of the Krušné Mountains, located above Klášterec nad Ohří, was built in the early 16th century on top of silver and copper ore deposits. The historical gallery (mining tunnel) of Maria Hilfe was reopened to the public in 2007. The 40-minute-long underground tour is definitely worth seeing. You will go through a three-hundred-metre long underground passage with illuminated sections of the main tunnel and through side passages as well. Here, you can see mannequins in historical dresses demonstrating their work activities. The highlight of the tour is the illuminated flooded chamber. To enhance your experience, we recommend a short climb to the top of Mědník and up to the chapel, where the claustrophobic feeling from the narrow corridors of the mine will be replaced with a charming panoramic view of the magical surroundings. The mysterious corners of the castle – ruins of Hasištejn Castle Finally, we shall take a look at the most picturesque castle ruins in this region, 22 km away from Měděnec. The impressive Gothic Hasištejn Castle is an ideal tourist destination for the whole family. It was built on a rocky headland, which on the west side drops sharply into the valley of the Prunéřovský Brook. The heart of every admirer of ancient castles will leap, as they pass through the bridge and the entrance gate and see the large courtyard, which only adds to the mystery of the large underground cellars below. But an even bigger surprise awaits us at the next gate, through which we enter the elevated spaces of the castle. Here we find plenty of interesting parts and corners where we can explore the well-preserved beauty of the castle. You may also see big and small towers offering impressive views of the surrounding countryside, or the original Gothic castle chapel, unique stone cantilevers with relief decorations and other diverse niches and corridors, which will be mostly appreciated by our smallest visitors.
